Lot #:	1
Date:	17 Jun 2003
Caliber:	.44 Rem Mag
Primer:	Remington 2-1/2 (Large Pistol)
Powder: Alliant 2400
Charge: 18.5 gr +- 0.1 gr; book lists 18.4 gr as min. load
Bullet: Gallenson's cheap 240 gr JHP
Brass:	PMC .44 Rem Mag, fired once
Notes: Lost one brass due to crumpling when seating the bullet; powder
removed, primer needs to be detonated and removed.

Need to reset de-priming die to flare case mouth more; excessive
chamfering needed to make bullets seat easily.

  Other 2 dies set correctly for Gallenson's bullets and PMC cases;
  slight roll crimp at cannelure.

  Cartridge O.A.L. = 1.610" nominal; varies by 0.01" easily; a few
cart. vary by 0.02" or 0.025"

50 brass reloaded, 1 failure = 49 loaded rounds for testing

1 reload had no powder; bullet stuck in bore - removed with cleaning
rod from muzzle; primer residue very black, but easily wipes off
brass; no visible damage to brass or gun - bullet "retired" due to
  damage from rod

Lot #: 2
Date: 21 June 2003
Caliber: .44 Rem Mag
Primer: Remington 2-1/2
Powder: Alliant 2400
  Charge: 19.5 gr +- 0.1
Bullet: Gallenson's cheap 240 gr JHP
Brass: GFL, fired once
Notes: Cartridge lengths more consistent, 1.610" target with <0.02"
variation, and most cartridges slightly short. Bullets seated at
  cannelure on all(?) rounds.

Brass flared by de-priming die - bullet seating much easier; no
  chamfering needed to seat bullets

50 brass reloaded, no problems in reloading.

  Range test:
Bullets hard to chamber in rifle - more crimp and/or chamfer the
outside of case before seating bullet.

All cartridges worked just fine once chambered; no errors in
    reloading

Loads felt like factory ammo; significantly stronger than lot #1

Try 20 gr powder load, but likely will return to 19.5 gr as optimal
    mix of low-punishment and high-performance.

Lot #: 3
Date: 16/17 July 2003
Caliber: .44 Rem Mag
Primer: Remington 2-1/2
Powder: Alliant 2400
Charge: 20.0 gr target, possibly 0.3 gr light
Bullet: 240 gr JHP el cheapo from Gallenson's (likely Win. bulk)
Brass: W-W Super, fired once
Notes: Catridge lengths not measured; seating depth set to cannelure as
before. Crimp increased to ease chambering in rifle.

  Cases chamfered after flaring.

  Measurements of powder measure were 20.0 gr for first 3 measurements;
weighs at 19.7 gr for last 3; no measurements in between. Could be
slight measurement error in loads at beginning or end. Checked zero
of balance at beginning and end. Loads could be lighting throughout
  batch...

Lot #: 4
Date: 18 Jul 2003
Caliber: .45 ACP
Primer: Remington 2-1/2
Powder: Alliant Unique
  Charge: 6.2 to 6.3 gr
Bullet: Gallenson's cheap 230 gr FMJ; probably Winchester bulk
Brass: MFS, fired once
Notes: Cartridge OALs measured to insure no maximum length over 1.275"
  Taper crimped
  Brass not chamfered
Dia. @ brass mouth 0.004" smaller than spec in Lyman Reloading manual
OALs normally 0.003" to 0.005" short
OAL deviation of 0.002" - 0.006" (est. max)
  63 cartridges reloaded for testing

Min. charge listed at 5.9 gr, max at 6.6; 6.3 likely should be good
  charge

Range test: 26 rounds tested; all worked fine in HK

Lot #: 5
Date: 19 Jul 2003
Caliber: .45 ACP
Primer: Remington 2-1/2
Powder: Alliant Unique
  Charge: 6.3-6.4 gr
Bullet: 230 gr FMJ; Gallenson's cheap ones
Brass: MFS & mixed, fired once or twice
Notes: 37 carts reloaded, 13 more waiting for bullets (sized, primed,
  etc.)

OALs of carts varies by 0.003" max around target of 1.275"

weighed every 5 rounds and at end.

Lot #: 6
Date: 20 Jul 2003
Caliber: .44 Rem. Mag.
Primer: Rem. 2-1/2
Powder: Alliant 2400
  Charge: 20.3 gr +- 0.1 gr
Bullet: 240 gr JHP, Gallenson's el cheapo
Brass: Mixed PMC, etc.; fired twice
Notes: 60 rounds reloaded
Not chamfered, good crimp, chambers alright in rifle
  OALs checked to be ~1.585"

Lot #: 7
Date: 29 July 2003
Caliber: .44 Rem Mag
Primer: Rem 2-1/2
Powder: Alliant 2400
  Charge: 20.3 to 20.4 gr
Bullet: Rainier Ballistics 240 gr JHP
Brass: mixed, fired twice
Notes: All brass must be resized; one cart. not resized before bullet
seating and bullet would not tightly seal. Pulled bullet and powder,
resized brass, and cartridge worked fine.

  50 cartridges reloaded

OAL varies between 1.603 and 1.611; most between 1.607 and 1.610"

Lot #: 8
Date: 29 July 2003
Caliber: .45 ACP
Primer: Rem 2-1/2
Powder: Alliant Unique
  Charge: 6.3 +- 0.2 gr
Bullet: Rainier Ballistics 230 gr JHP
Brass: mixed, fired once or twice
Notes:
OALs shorter than 230 gr FMJ cartridges; normally around 1.250 vs.
1.275" target for FMJ. Lyman book lists 1.250" target OAL for JHPs
(185 gr though), so assume cartridges OK.

Only 13 cartridges reloaded to add to the 37 of lot #5 for 50 carts.
ready for testing; note lot #5 is 230 gr FMJ, not JHP.

Lot #: 9

  81 cartridges reloaded

Lot #: 10
Date: 8 Aug 2003

Powder: Alliant 2400
Charge: 19.5 gr target; 19.2-19.3 gr actual at start
Bullet: Rainier Ballistics 240 gr JHP
Brass: mixed, supplied by Dad
Notes: Black marks on bottom of brass indicate cartridges with OAL
  >1.620" or <1.600"; should work just fine, but be careful.

Perhaps thin-walled cartridges, as needs heavy crimp to hold bullet
  after resizing.

38 cartridges total; 1 brass taken for heavy loads (lot 11)

Lot #: 11
Date: 8 Aug 2003
Caliber: .44 Rem Mag
Primer: Remington 2-1/2

Brass: Remington unfired brass
Notes: Max powder loads; green mark on bottom of brass to designate max
  load.

Bullet: 158 JHP, Gallenson's cheap ones
Brass: mixed brass color
Notes: medium loads for Dad.

at cannelure and improves fit in test pistol (Taurus 5-shot revolver
  w/2" barrel)

This lot was primed with a hand priming tool, rather than the old
bench method used previously. Hand primer appears to be
significantly faster, with about the same or better control on
